Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine

Antonella Turchiaro, R.Tcmp, R.Ac,

treatment2

Practiced for over 3000 years in China and other Asian countries, the benefit of acupuncture treatment is now clearly recognized and well documented in Western medical journals and in medical institutions across Canada.

Acupuncture is used to encourage natural healing, improve mood and energy, reduce or relieve pain and improve function of affected areas of the body. It is safe and effective and is often successfully used as an alternative to medications or even surgery. This therapy involves the insertion of very fine needles into specific points on the body, known as acupoints, and is an effective therapy for acute and chronic conditions. Insertion of the needles causes local tissue changes as well as multi-system responses by stimulating the body to produce pain-relieving chemicals called endorphins.

Benefits of Acupuncture may include:

    • Speed up healing and recovery time
    • Decrease or eliminate pain
    • Boost the immune system
    • Decrease tension associated with pain and/or stress
    • Promote relaxation

Acupuncture can be used to treat the following musculoskeletal conditions:

    • Headaches
    • Low back pain
    • Neck and/or Shoulder pain
    • Rotator cuff injuries
    • Tendonitis
    • Radicular/nerve pain from ‘sciatica’
    • Hip pain
    • Wrist and Ankle Sprains
    • Plantar fasciitis
